On August 1st, the Brookfield plant received its first delivery of scrap tires to be used as fuel for the cement plant. These tires will be consumed over the first half of August for the commissioning and testing of the mechanical handling system. The system worked flawlessly during the first tests and the kiln continued to operate well within normal operating parameters during the commissioning tests.
The plant team hopes to finish the commissioning stage by mid-August and start full scale, round the clock usage of scrap tires – all while monitoring the kiln operations and optimizing the system. Pilot emission testing will take place in the early Fall.
Here are some pictures and two short videos of the system in operation.
